Griffith Information

Griffith is a bustling regional city in New South Wales with a population of around 18,000 people. The city is named after Sir Arthur Griffith who was the first minister of public works and was first established on the 4th August 1916.

The city of Griffith is well known for being in the heart of Australia’s food growing citrus areas and is nicknamed the “Wine and Food Country” with plenty produce such as oranges, rockmelons, grapes, tomatoes, pumpkins, onions, nuts and capsicum just to name a few that supply supermarkets around Australia.

The first people in the area were the Wiradjuri aboriginal people and Griffith is a city rich in culture and diversity with mixed blend of nationalities including Italian, English, Scottish and Irish decent.

One of the biggest drawcards for Griffith is with wine connoisseurs as the surrounding region has more than 15 top-notch wineries to discover including some of Australia’s finest in reputation like De Bortoli Wines, West End Wines, Beelgara Estate and Miranda and Riverina Wines.

For history there in no better place to discover than Pioneer Park Museum. This open-air museum contains 40 historical buildings set amongst eleven hectares of bushland and provides a vivid insight to early day settlers. Another great place to see is the Italian Museum at the entrance of Pioneer Park.

The Catania Fruit Salad Farm is another great attractions especially for those interested in gaining an understanding in horticulture and how crops are grown.

Nature lovers are not left out on their visit to the city with the Griffith wetlands being an important area for migratory birds, the nearby Cocoparra National Park offering excellent walking trails and of course a favourite amongst any tourist the Scenic Hill lookout that offers a splendid view over the city.
