Merimbula Information

Merimbula is a coastal tourist town located in the Sapphire Coast with a population of around 4,000 people. The name originates from an aboriginal word meaning “Two Lakes”.

The town has an airport for quick access and many visitors come from Sydney and Melbourne for perfect beachside holiday. There are plenty of events happening all year round in Merimbula with some of the best being the Mambo Windsurfing and Kiteboarding festival in November, the Jazz festival and the annual Orchid Show.

There are five main beaches to Merimbula and all provide a different atmosphere. Main Beach and Short Point are the best for surfing, Bar Beach is great for snorkelling, Mitchies Jetty and Bar Beach are best for swimming and relaxing beachside.

Whale watching, boating and fishing are some great activities offshore to Merimbula. The best time to go whale watching is from late September to late November as the Humpback whales migrate southwards for their mating season.

Merimbula also features a fantastic theme park called Magic Mountain. The theme park is complete with waterslides, toboggans, roller coasters and more. The theme park has a reputation for the best toboggan slope in New South Wales and is a must do experience.

Another great way to experience Merimbula is a scenic helicopter or plane charter from Merimbula Air Services. For the more adventurous Skydiving is available too.

A perfect day trip out is Wheelers Oysters Farm and Restaurant, which located on the waters of Merimbula Lake. The Oyster farm has been producing Oysters for over 100 years and the guided farm tour provides a spectacular and informative inside into Oyster farming. The attached restaurant is top notch and specialises in seafood dishes
