Moree Information

Moree in New South Wales is a large rural township located on the banks of the Mehi River. The Kamilaroi Aboriginal people occupied the area until white settlement in 1862 when the town was officially established.

Many tourists and people in surrounding towns in NSW visit Moree for the Hot Mineral Baths, which the town is well known for. The mineral baths are a wonderful place and provide therapy for those seeking to relieve aching muscles and arthritic pain.

Another great attraction nearby is the Trawalla Pecan Nut Farm located on the Gwydir Highway half an hour drive east of Moree. The nut farm is the largest in the southern hemisphere with over 70,000 nut trees and produces a staggering 95% of all Pecan nuts in Australia.

Art lovers will appreciate the Moree Plains Gallery that houses important and significant contemporary Aboriginal arts and artefacts. The gallery was established in 1988 and promotes the cultural life and significance of well-known Aboriginal artists.

Golfers will enjoy the Moree Golf Club located at Greenbah Road. The golf Club Features a challenging par 72 course set amongst undulating landscape of the Mehi River. There is also an excellent clubhouse, which is fully air-conditioned and well known for fine dining and meals.

Next to the Moree Golf course is the Moree Cemetery that is also worth a visit. The cemetery contains the grave of Edward Dickens who was the youngest son of the famous and well-known Charles Dickens. Edward arrived in Australia in 1868 and worked for the Moree Lands Department until his death in 1902.

While enjoying the wonderful atmosphere of Moree why not visit the Amaroo Tavern in town. Here you will find a well-maintained DC3 plane dating back from World War II.
