Muswellbrook Information

Muswellbrook in New South Wales is named after the area Muswell Hill of London UK. The town has a relatively moderate population of about 12,000 people and is predominantly well known for its nearby coal mining, wineries and hose breeding industries.

A great place to start on your discovery of Muswellbrook is taking the Heritage Town Walk. The 4.5 kilometre journey is comprised of 40 great historical sights most of which are located on the town’s centre, Bridge Street. The walk highlights magnificent architecture and historical facts dating back to 1833 when the town was first established.

Art lovers will enjoy The Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre located on the corner of Bridge and William Street. The arts centre has several exhibitions throughout the year featuring not only local artists but also some great artworks from all states of Australia.

There are plenty of wineries to discover in the surrounding areas of Muswellbrook and the area is one of Australia’s largest grape growing areas producing large volumes of fine quality wines.

For some action the local Muswellbrook racetrack is the place to be with regular horse racing and the big event not to miss is Muswellbrook Cup race held every year over two days in early November.

Golfing enthusiasts will enjoy the Muswellbrook Golf club located on Bell Street. The golf club is well established with over a hundred years of history. The challenging 18-hole course is picturesque and playing a relaxed game of golf it is hard to imagine that it is surrounded by major industries like power stations, coal mines, vineyards and horse studs.

For swimming, the Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre located on Wilkinson Avenue is a great place to relax on a hot summers day. It is open all year round and has a heated indoor pool too.
