Orange Information

Orange in New South Wales is a big city with a population of about 32,000 people. It is a well known as a fruit growing district which produces many different crops like pears, cherries, apples, peaches, apricots, plums and oranges. The area is also a fast growing wine producing region making Orange the gourmet food capital of New South Wales.

Banjo Paterson the famous Australian Bush poet who wrote Waltzing Matilda, The man from Snowy River and the Clancy of the Overflow was born and grew up here.

Orange is also the birthplace of the famous V8 Supercar Championship Series which was held at the Gnoo Blas circuit but was unfortunately closed in 1962 before its massive popularity.

Fabulous nature can be found at botanical Gardens in Cook Park where there is nearly five hectares of beautiful scenery to explore. The park was officially established in 1873 and is named after the explorer Captain James Cook. The scenery is some of Australiaís finest and it is well worth signing up for the heritage walk to appreciate its true splendour.

Orange is also home to the Wentworth Golf Club. This championship golf course is on most professional golfers list to play at for the beautiful scenery. Every year the BMW PGA championship is held here, so if you arenít too good at the game then at least join in as a spectator.

As the region around Orange is surrounded by plenty of vineyards, it is also well worth bookmarking the third week every October for the Orange Winefest. This week long festival celebrates the Orange Wine Show where local vineyards put on a magnificent display of gourmet food and wine tasting sure to entice locals and travellers from afar. Orange is well known for its Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Chardonnay.
