Quirindi Information

Quirindi is a small town in New South Wales with a population of about 3,000 people. Originally inhabited by the Kamilaori Aboriginal people it was not until the middle 1800’s that European settlers came to the area. The name of the township is divided amongst the Aboriginal language and has several meaning some of which being nest in the hills, place of many possums and place where fish breed.

The economy of Quirindi is mostly centred around farming such as cotton and cattle, Quirindi is a great place to visit for the rural getaway. The centre of town offers plenty of amenities and a big hit amongst locals is the Royal Theatre that has plenty of great movies being shown on the big screen.

A great place not to miss is the b located just 3 kilometres from town. The museum and heritage village showcases vintage farming machinery set amongst 18 acres of rich farming land. There are several pavilions including a blacksmith shop to give you a feel of being back in time when the area was once founded.

Another great attraction is the Historical Cottage Museum in Station Street. The museum houses artefacts dating back to Quirindi’s pioneering years and the building itself is of history being once the headquarters of a local newspaper The Magpie.

There are plenty of monthly events with the Quota Markets being held the 2nd Saturday every month, the Quirindi Miniature Railway the fourth Sunday of every month and the Quirindi Motorcycle Club Meet the last week of every month. For the best yearly events not to miss the Rural Heritage Festival is held every year in May and the Quirindi Show is celebrated in September.

Golfing lovers will also enjoy the Quirindi RSL Golf Club. Featuring a 9-hole par 72 it is located off Werris Creek Road set amongst some wonderful rural scenery.
