Hughenden Information

Hughenden, Queensland is a small town of about 1,500 people situated on the banks of the Flinders River. It is the major centre for the cattle and sheep grazing industry.

The temperature can vary from very hot in summer to very cold in winter.

A replica Muttaburrasaurus dinosaur is in town. In 1963 dinosaur bones and teeth were discovered in Hughenden and today it is still celebrated with the annual Hughenden Dinosaur Festival.

Visit the Highenden Dinosaur centre and discover the fascinating history of how dinosaurs existed in Australia thousands of years before our time.

The Hughenden Show is held in the first weekend in June and attracts many tourists and travellers to the town. It is well worth planning your time to see the action as this small town comes alive.

Another favourite with locals and people passing through is the Annual Bull Ride and Race day held every September. If you want to see local action and bull racing then grab your cowboy hat and boots and head down to Hughenden. Sure enough you will experience excitement unknown to other country towns of Queensland.

Camel riding is another favourite pastime and sport of Hughenden. Every year the Great Hughenden Camel Endurance Challenge is held and provides something a little different to see and experience.

Eco enthusiasts will enjoy the nearby Porcupine Gorge. There are plenty walking trails and tours to enjoy nature.

There are also heaps of sports you can get involved in town. Try a round of golf at the local golf course or play some tennis if you are more active. After you finish you can cool off at the local swimming pool and relax a little.
