Maroochydore Information

Maroochydore in Queensland has a relatively small population of about 5,000 people who live in town. The area is very popular for tourism and people travel from all parts of Queensland and over the world to relax and holiday here.

Maroochydore is named after the red bill black swan in the area. In the Yuggera language the word “Muru-kutchi” means red-bill and this is where the name originated.

Located to the south of the Maroochy River, the town has heaps of parkland and picnic spots to relax and have a great Australian barbeque at. The beachfront is absolutely pristine and a prime example of the magnificent Sunshine coast reputation.

The beach is definitely a tourism drawcard and crowd pleaser. There are so many activities to choose from. Go surfing, snorkelling, diving, swimming, jet skiing, sailing, boating, water skiing, kite surfing or kayaking. If you are having trouble choosing then just relax on the beach end enjoy the sunshine.

Maroochydore actually has so many great beaches to see it is hard to choose from. If you are looking for surf try Mudjimba or Alexandra Hedland beach. Great family beaches are Mooloolaba and Maroochydore beach. Coolum beach provides a tranquil escape from the other busy beaches.

Slightly to the south of Maroochydore in the suburb of Mooloolaba you will discover the magnificent Underwater World. Here you can explore and see the thousands of marine and freshwater animals and be enchanted with the oceanarium.

There are ample surfing, lifesaving and yachting carnivals and events to keep you entertained.

Maroochydore also features National Parks and wineries close by. If you prefer shopping there are heaps of choices. Maroochydore hosts the big shops and Mooloolaba has all your favourite boutiques.
