Mission Beach Information

Mission Beach in Queensland is a small coastal tourist town along the Coral Sea. The area was first settled in 1882 by the Cutten brothers, who farmed the area with produce such as mangoes, bananas, pineapples and coffee. Mission Beach is a township with a population of about 3,000 people.

Today Mission Beach is a thriving tourist town, which has a unique small town feel to it. Dunk Island lies just 4 kilometres offshore, which makes the beach at Mission beach spectacular as you can see the distant view of the green mountains.

Nearby is a shallow reef, which runs from North Mission Beach to Clump Point, and during low tide the reef is exposed. A very fantastic reef to explore is you love snorkelling or fishing.

Mission Beach is also home to many species of wildlife and is surrounded by a world heritage listed rainforest. One of the must see birds in the area is the Southern Cassowary which is prevalent in the area. At Wongaling Beach Shopping complex there is a 5-meter high Cassowary monument, which has become the town’s icon.

White water rafting is another popular activity on the nearby Tully River. Other fantastic things to do include diving, boating, kayaking, Hiking, sightseeing, and skydiving onto the beach for adrenalin lovers.

Another great place to visit is the Australian Sugar Industry Museum is based nearby at Mourilyan. Here you can learn the history of the sugar industry in Queensland.

There is a water taxi service that can take you out to Dunk Island for a day trip. Dunk Island is a beautiful Rainforest Island. The Island is a National Park and filled with many walking tracks and secluded beaches for you to enjoy. There are also heaps of great water sport attractions that make the perfect day out.
