Nambour Information

Situated on the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast and along the foot of the Blackall Ranges is Nambour, a town not to be missed by those travelling through south-east Queensland.

A famous attraction on Nambour’s outskirts is the Sunshine Plantation. Here you will find the Big Pineapple and the Big Macadamia Nut. Tropical fruit farms and tourism make up a large part of the town’s economy and a visit to these farms is a popular activity. The Big Pineapple is 16 metres tall and at this site you can explore pineapple plantations and other agricultural products, shops, restaurants and exhibits.

Also a short dive away is the famous big cow. This giant moo symbolises the farming primary industry that also exists in the area and is well worth taking a holiday snap for the album.

Take a ride on the cane train and experience the plantation’s history. Although entry to the plantation is free, money can easily be spent on the many tropical fruits, gifts and keepsakes available to visitors.

The Big Macadamia Nut is also found within the Sunshine Plantation, and stands 10 metres tall and 5 metres wide. It is another sight you literally can’t miss. Hop aboard the ‘Nutmobile’ and experience the macadamia orchards and rainforest surrounds of ‘Nutcountry’.

In the past, sugar farming has been the primary industry in Nambour, and although it is not longer operating, it is a point of interest for tourists. Take the family to Thrill Hill Fun Park for a day of amusement park fun without the crowds of a big theme park.

Nambour is home to a number of Australian icons. World famous tennis star Pat Rafter and current Prime Minister Kevin Rudd were born here, as well as rugby league player Billy Slater and cricketer Ashley Noffke. Daughter of the late Steve Irwin, Bindi Irwin, and drummer of the band Powderfinger were also born here.
