Sarina Information

Sarina in Queensland is a small town south of Mackay with a population of about 4,000 people. The local CSR Plane creek sugar mill in town caters for the many sugar cane farms that are spread throughout Sarina and surrounding areas. Other primary industries include cattle grazing and agriculture industries.

In the town centre you will see Australia’s biggest statute of a giant cane toad. Sarina is a town very much proud of its cane farming industry and throughout history the town has been a significant producer of sugar. The cane toad that is so prevalent can be found in wet weather, especially in massive numbers on the cane farms.

Tourism in Sarina is slowly developing but currently right now it is still the hidden place to discover your perfect holiday without the crowds. See the magnificent beaches that are pristine and untouched. Just like walking on the moon you can often be the first person to be walking on the beach in the Sarina coastline without anyone’s footprints.

Eco lovers will also enjoy the local turtle population. From November to January turtles lay their eggs and between February to March turtles hatch to go on their lifelong adventure here.

Although being an industrialised farming community there are still many tourist activities like golf, tennis, squash and water sports action here. Many fishing boats and dinghy’s are available for hire all year round. It is important though to remember that the summer months are no good for swimming or diving here as the stinger jellyfish population swells in numbers.

There are also a number of national parks and reserves located nearby like Mount Blamey Environmental Park just west of the town and Cape Palmerston located east. Cape Palmerston is probably the most popular as it covers the most diverse scenery from coastline to the volcanic Mount Funnel Range.
