Marion Bay Information

Marion Bay is a small tourist town at the tip of the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. The town is popular as a fishing holiday destination with Brown Beach being a hot spot for recreational anglers.

Although Marion Bay has a small population of around 150 people the township swells significantly during the holiday period and the best times to visit are during the summer months from March to May.

Environmental lovers also enjoy the area for its proximity to the nearby Innes National Park. The park features many walking trails and the biggest attraction is bird watching with over 115 species of birdlife in the area including some rare threatened bird species such as the Western Whipbird. There are also over 300 native plants at Innes National Park with the landscape changing during the four seasons showcasing bright beautiful colours all year round.

The town of Marion Bay also attracts surfers who come for the nearby surf breaks at Pondalowie with fantastic waves from 3-8 foot. Richards Reef is also popular and named after the long time local surfing resident Richard Thomas.

For its main drawcard, fishing is fantastic from fishing off the jetty to being able to fish in two different gulfs being the Gulf of Spencer and the Gulf of St Vincent. The hotspot for some of the best Salmon fishing in all of South Australia is off Browns Beach at Marion Bay.

For a must do event the annual Falls Festival is a once in a lifetime experience. Held every year from 29th December to the 1st January the festival features music, arts and films and attracts huge crowds who come to see the performances. The event is also well know for its revellers who come dressed in excessively wild and colourful costumes and is fun for all ages.
