Lakes Entrance Information

Lakes Entrance in Victoria is a popular tourist destination and fishing port with a population of about 7,000 people. The township gets its name as it is situated at the entrance of the Gippsland Lake system.

Boating is a must do activity for any visiting traveller. Bring your own boat, hire one or go on a charter tour for a magical day out. There are endless fishing spots, sightseeing locations or picnic places on your boating adventure.

For something a little different take a charter flight in the area to see an amazing aerial view of Lakes Entrance. Some of the best charter flight providers are Gippsland Helicopters or Aerial Skydives.

For beach lovers the 90-mile beach is a great place to relax by the ocean or enjoy some swimming. The beach has plenty of white sandy dunes and there are various lagoons to discover as well.

The nearby Lakes National Park also makes for some great eco adventure or camping fun. The national park is massive in size and the two best spots to see are the Sperm Whale Head peninsula and Rotamah. Both have great picnic spots and are abundant in wildlife for a wonderful eco tour.

For a different kind of museum, visit the Griffith Sea Shell Museum, the museum is unlike other museums with over 100,000 shells and coral on display for you to see. The museum is located at 125 Esplanade Street in Lakes Entrance.

Another entertaining thing to do in Lakes Entrance is going for a ride on the paddleboats.

Nearby Lakes Entrance are several great wineries and farms, which offer great wine tasting and experiences. Three of the best wineries include Wyanga Park, Ammitzboll and Nicholson River Winery.
