Albany Information

Albany or The Great Southern Region, features some activities of the most rugged and awe-inspiring scenery in Australia. It also boasts some of the finest restaurant food and premium wine production and is widely recognized.

The changing coast line can be both tranquil and beautiful or intensely dramatic. It offers superb fishing and also provides protection to pods of Southern Right, Sperm, Humpback Whales and, on occasions, the rare and endangered Blue Whale.

Albany’s natural walking trails are at the heart of what is widely recognized as one of the most incredibly biodiversity environments for walkers anywhere in Australia. Eco walks in and around the region range from 20 minutes to 4 hours.

See History at the Desert Corps and War Memorial located at Mt Clarence in the heart of Albany, in the same locality as the Fort. It stands as a stark reminder of their valiant war effort and also a reminder that the Australian Army contingent departed from Albany for Gallipoli.

* ALBANY WIND FARM - Just 12 kilometers from the City centre is the site of 12 turbines, perched high on their 65 metrer towers, each turbine has three 35 meter blades, wider than most passenger aircraft wing spans. The wind farm provides an insight into the future in terms of environmentally friendly power generation.

* WHALE WORLD - Whale World serves as a wonderful reminder of our grim past. The old whaling station has been transformed into a museum, complete with one of the original whaling vessels you can climb all over. The site has been authentically preserved, capturing the atmosphere and whaling experiences of the past.

* FARMERS MARKET - The unique thing of Albany Farmers market is that all produce is grown locally with no imports. Chat to the local farmer direct and enjoy Albany's freshest produce.
