Nice Information

Nice is the fifth most populated city in France with a population of about 400,000 people. Nice is the capital of the Cote d’Azur area on the French Riviera in the South of France. Located on the coastline, Nice is a very popular holiday destination in particular for beachside holidaymakers.

The French nickname for Nice is “Nice la Belle” which translated means Nice the beautiful. Nice is also a wonderful city with history and architectural brilliance and some archaeological sites in the city date way back to the beginning of the Terra Amata era.

Nice is the second best and must visit place in France behind Paris. The Promenade des Anglais and coastline is the star attraction for the perfect beach lifestyle. Another great place in Nice is the main city square named Place Masséna and Place Garibaldi for amazing architecture and history.

One of the most active spots in Nice away from the beach is the Cours Saleya Flower Markets. The markets feature hundreds of stalls with fresh produce, gifts and entertainment day and night. Here you will also find some of the best restaurants serving traditional French cuisine.

There are many museums in Nice, which house some of the world’s greatest artworks. One of the most notable is the Matisse Museum that displays drawings and paintings from the famous French artist Henri Matisse. The museum is located north if the city centre.

If you are looking to capture a great holiday photo then the best place to get panoramic views of Nice is from Le Chateau on Castle Hill. Le Chateau is a famous castle with plenty of history. Made of large limestone blocks 100 metres high, the castle was the scene of many wars in history and once the home of the famous heroine Catherine Ségurane.
