São Paulo Information

São Paulo is the largest city in Brazil and the seventh largest city on Earth with a staggering population of over 19 million people. So large is Sao Pãulo that it is considered one of the worlds Alpha cities which significantly contributes to the world’s global economic systems.

The modern skyline is an attraction in itself with more than 15 buildings higher than 150 metres in height (over 42 stories). Not just modern buildings can be found in the city but also plenty of historic ones too including the Martinelli Building constructed in 1929 that was the first ever skyscraper in Brazil.

The Economy of São Paulo is thriving and holidaymakers come to the city for some of the best shopping that Brazil has to offer. The best place to buy luxury goods is in the luxury quadrilatel being the Cidade Jardim Mall, the JK Iguatemi Mall and the Iguatemi São Paulo Mall.

Like many other Brazilian holiday destinations many travellers come for the Carnivals and cultural events that a rife throughout the city all year round. The big ones not to miss include the São Paulo Carnival and the Virada Cultural festival held every year in May. The amount of activity throughout the city makes this place great for people seeking a holiday filled with entertainment and action.

For those more into culture than parties the city of São Paulo is rife with museums and theatres in all corners of the city. One of the most visited museums in the city is the São Paulo Museum of Art that attracts more than half a million visitors a year. Another great attraction is the Museu Paulista at the University of São Paulo that contains the famous 1888 painting Independência ou Morte by Pedro Américo.

An event not to miss is the Formula One Brazilian Grand Prix held every year at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace that dates back to the first race in 1972.
