Yokohama Information

Yokohama in Japan is a large city with a population of over 4 million people situated on Tokyo Bay. The economy of Yokohama is driven by Shipping, Biotechnology and the manufacturing industry. The famous car Nissan has its headquarters in the city of Yokohama.

Being a portside city, Yokohama is famous for the Yokohama Marine Tower. At 106 metres high the tower is the tallest lighthouse in the world and popular with tourists for the 100-metre high observation deck.

Another great place to see is Yokohama Chinatown with over 150 years of history. This Chinatown is one of the largest Chinatowns in not just Japan but the world and you won’t find it hard to find something great to eat with over 200 restaurants. The beginning of Chinatown features the Goodwill Gate and plenty of tourists stop for their perfect holiday snap at the gate.

The futuristic modern part of the city is called Minto Mirai 21 and is another attractions for visitors. The best shopping mall is found at Queen’s Square in Minto and plenty also come to marvel at the Landmark tower which at 296.3 metres is the tallest building in Japan.

Minto Mirai 21 is also home to the giant Ferris wheel known at the Cosmo Clock 21. Built in 1989 it is currently the world’s second biggest Ferris wheel at an amazing 112.5 metres tall and takes about 15 minutes for one complete rotation.

The best theme park in Yokohama is the Hakkeijima Sea Paradise. The theme park is located on a man made island with 14 fantastic amusement rides including a rollercoaster. The three-story fish aquarium is also a favourite amongst children and adults alike.

Environmental lovers will enjoy the Sankeien Japanese Gardens located in the Honmoku district. The gardens include a Buddhist sanctum, tea houses and other historical buildings.
