Miami Information

Miami in the US state of Florida has a large Cuban American population and is nicknamed the “Capital of Latin America” with a high concentration of Spanish speaking people. The city is a big metropolis with finance, commerce, entertainment, media, fashion and culture being its main thriving industries. Due to its fast pace and rapid growth the city is also known for its other nickname the “Magic City”.

The heart of the Miami is Downtown, a thriving central business district with plenty of skyscrapers and streets filled with people going about their working lives. Downtown also has the majority of museums, shops and some of the oldest buildings in the Historic District where building date back to 1896.

One of the best parts to discover is the Art Deco District along Miami’s South and North Beach where the beach and holiday lifestyle are a big drawcard. This part of Miami is probably the epicentre of the Art Deco lifestyle in the world with its wonderful buildings and hotels along the strip well known for their vibrant colours and architecture as seen in countless cinema movies.

Being a port city, Miami has all the joys of water sports with plenty of boat cruise, aqua tours, charters, jet boats, jet skiing, waterskiing and many other fun activities. The nearby port of Dodge Island sees a staggering 4 million passengers a year come to Miami onboard some of the largest cruise ships in the world.

Where there is sun and surf, there are also usually sports and Miami is no exception. The American Airlines Arena at the city foreshore is home to Basketball for the Miami Heat and The Miami Dolphins play football at Miami Gardens, Sun Life Stadium, so why not watch a game if lucky enough to be in Miami in season.

Other Miami experiences and sights not to miss include a visit to the Miami Zoo, Vizcaya Museum, and Wynwood Art Walk, ride the Metro rail and shop at the Dolphin Hall. Bayside Marketplace is also worth the visit, especially for its great restaurants and beautiful views, making it a great place to chill out.
