Sacramento Information

Sacramento is the capital city of the US state of California and named after the Sacramento River that make up its western borders. The city owes its heritage to a Swiss immigrant named John Sutter who established Sacramento as a distribution fort in 1839.

The city is broken down into four neighbourhoods with downtown West Sacramento being the city centre with skyscrapers and busy streets offering great restaurants, shopping and theatres. Old Sacramento is the place to go for the Historic part of the city with a great attraction being the CA Railroad Museum as well as some historic saloons.

The California State Capitol and Museum is another popular tourist attraction with the one hour guided tour highlighting the history of the city along with being able to see some very impressive assembly and legislative rooms. Another popular landmark not to miss is the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament dating back to 1889.

Sacramento is also a place where you can really enjoy the great outdoors such as Discovery Park near the city centre ideal for picnics and concerts during summer. There are also plenty of water activities along the Sacramento River including white water rafting, boating and fishing.
